ANESTHETIC MANAGEMENT OF A PATIENT WITH OSTEOGENESIS IMPERFECTA FOR DEFORMITY CORRECTION

View through CrossRef
Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare connective tissue disorder . It affects bone, sclera and inner ear due to mutations of the collagen type 1 COLIA1 and COLIA2 genes. The hallmark feature of OI is fragile bones. The classical clinical triad are brittle bones, blue sclera, and deafness. It is also known as brittle bone disease. Here we report a case of OI type IV with distinctively blue sclera, kyphoscoliosis, brittle teeth and multiple fractures throughout the body since childhood. The patient came for deformity correction of left tibia with IMIL nailing. In this study we discuss upon the anaesthetic management of a patient with osteogenesis imperfecta presenting with kyphoscoliosis and anticipated difcult airway.
