Väinämöinen laulaa loitsuja. Kuusen latvasta nousee mieshahmo.

View through Europeana Collections
Väinämöinen did not enjoy staying in the dark lands of Pohjola but wanted to go back to his home in Väinölä. Louhi, the mistress of the Northland, asked Väinämöinen to forge the Sampo. If he could do that, he could marry her daughter. Väinämöinen, however, could not, but promised to send the smith Ilmarinen to do it instead. Ilmarinen did not want to travel to Pohjola, so Väinämöinen lured him to see an enchanted fir-tree that blossoms and has stars in its branches. Once at the tree, Väinämöinen conjures up a wind to take Ilmarinen to Pohjola. What could Ilmarinen be saying to Väinämöinen when flying towards Pohjola? Task: Fairytales. Make up a fairytale of Ilmarinen’s flight to Pohjola and what happened once he got there. The story can be told in parts, having everyone tell one sentence at a time, for example.
