CHRONIC CALCIFIED INFRAPATELLAR BURSITIS : A RARE PRESENTATION AND CASE REPORT
View through CrossRef
There are numerous bursae in our body which function to protect the tendons and soft tissues and help in smooth movement. bursae around the knee
include the suprapatellar, prepatellar, infrapatellar supercial, infrapatellar deep and pes anserine bursae and their function is to reduce friction
between structures, especially during range of motion of the knee and sport .When irritated , they produce symptoms which range from
inammation initially to chronic calcication and malignant changes if prolonged . The symptoms and signs of bursitis include pain, swelling,
tenderness and local raise of temperature. In the initial stages the management is usually to reduce the stimulus which eventually reduces the
symptoms and healing occurs. But when it's not the case, surgical intervention in terms of excision becomes mandatory. We present a case of
chronic supercial infrapatellar bursitis in a middle aged individual with classic symptoms, which could not be managed conservatively and was
managed by surgical excision which has relived the patient of the symptoms making this a rare case report.
