Effective Management of Sarshapika - A Subtype of Prameha Pidaka (Folliculitis) By Ayurvedic Approach - A Case Report

Prameha is a condition primarily influenced by Kapha, considered a Kapha Pradhana Sannipatika Vyadhi. In this case, Kapha is the dominant Dosha (Bahu Drava Shleshma), while Meda, representing body fat, serves as the main Dushya (Bahu Abadha Meda). There are 20 recognized types of Prameha, as detailed by various Acharyas. Among them, there are 10 types of Kaphaja Prameha, 6 kinds of Pittaja Prameha, and 4 types of Vataja Prameha. Additionally, the (Upadravas) complications that arise from Prameha, known as Prameha Pidakas, include a total of 10 distinct types, each categorized by different Acharyas. Upadravas can be described as the manifestation of a detrimental event that arises due to the factors contributing to the onset of the primary illness. Among these, Sarshapika is one type of Pitta Pradhana Prameha Pidaka. In this case study, a 55-year-old female patient presents with widespread red maculo-papular rashes accompanied by intense itching, burning sensation, and pin-pricking pain all over the body, mainly over the extremities, for the past three months. The patient was treated with Ayurvedic medications and got very encouraging results after 3 months of management.
