Resumo – este estudo se propõe a analisar a pintura Os últimos momentos de um Bandeirante executado por Henrique Bernadelli (1857-1936) em 1932 como um ponto final à série temática dedicada à ornamentação do Museu Paulista. A pintura representa a morte de Fernão Dias Paes Leme e pode ser vista como um memento mori devido ao sentido trágico ressignificado da figura do bandeirante.Palavras chave – Pintura brasileira, Bernadelli, bandeirantes.
