Opinions of Public School Teachers Toward School Uniforms

The purpose of the research was to investigate Kansas elementary and middle school teachers' opinions toward school uniforms. The independent variables investigated were academic level, district size, and geographic location. The dependent variables were Social Issues, Discipline Issues, Academic Issues, and Total. Sample size was 297. There was one composite null hypothesis that was tested at the .0500 level. The analysis consisted of 28 comparisons. Of the 28 comparisons, 12 were for main effects and 16 for interactions. Four of the 12 main effects were statistically significant at the .0500 level. Eight of the 16 interactions were statistically significant at the .0500 level. The following interactions were significant: 1. the independent variables academic level and geographic location for the dependent variable Social Issues, 2. the independent variables district size and geographic location for the dependent variable Social Issues, 3. the independent variables academic level and geographic location for the dependent variable Discipline Issues; 4. the independent variables district size and geographic location for the dependent variable Discipline Issues; 5. the independent variables academic level and geographic location for the dependent, Variable Academic Issues, 6. the independent variables district size and geographic location for the dependent variable Academic Issues, 7. the independent variables academic level and geographic location for the dependent variable Total, and 8. the independent variables district size and geographic location for the dependent variable Total. The results of the present study appeared to support the following generalizations: 1. academic level and geographic location should be interpreted concurrently for Social Issues, 2. district size and geographic location should be interpreted concurrently for Social Issues, 3. academic level and geographic location should be interpreted concurrently for Discipline Issues, 4. district size and geographic location should be interpreted concurrently for Discipline Issues, 5. academic level and geographic location should be in interpreted concurrently for Academic Issues, 6. district size and geographic location should be interpreted concurrently for Academic Issues, 7. academic level and geographic location should be interpreted concurrently for Total, 8. district size and geographic location should be interpreted concurrently for Total, and 9. Kansas elementary and middle level teachers have positive opinions toward uniforms in public schools.
