Geothermometry of Karnataka charnockites

Charnockite is a wide spread orthopyroxene-bearing quartzo-felspathic rock in the Precambrian of Southern Karnataka. In this paper chemical compositions of co-existing phases namely, orthopyroxene-clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene-hornblende and clinopyroxene-hornblende of the charnockites of Sivasamudram area have been used to know whether the charnockites of the area have attained chemical equilibrium during recrystallisation and to estimate temperature conditions of crystallisation of the phases. A comparative study is also made regarding the P-T estimates determined for charnockites occurring in different parts of India.
