paper explains in detail about the process of annexation of Assam by the British, which

brought about far reaching political, economic and social changes in Assam. As we know that

the treaty of Yandabo of 1826 A.D., which was signed at the end of the first Anglo- Burmese
</div>

War, marked the beginning of the advent of colonial rule in Assam. As a matter of fact, by
</div>
<div>
this treaty the king of Burma (Myanmar) renounced his claim on Assam and the withdrawal
</div>
<div>
of the Burmese provided the British to create an atmosphere of a great influence in this
</div>
<div>
region. Now the British were the fortune - makers of Assam, but slowly and slowly they
</div>
<div>
interfered in all the affairs of the administration and wanted to gain affluent resources of this
</div>
<div>
North- Eastern Frontier state in the name of East India Company.

This paper evaluates the administrative changes made by David Scott in Assam, who was

appointed as Agent to the Governor- General of the North Eastern Frontier in addition to his
