Proffesionalism and Accountability

<div> This paper examines in depth the concepts of professionalism and accountability in the teaching profession as the two main pillars that determine the quality of education in Indonesia. Teacher professionalism is understood as a set of competencies, ethics, and professional abilities that educators must possess to carry out learning tasks effectively, structured, and oriented to student development. These competencies include material mastery, pedagogical skills, interpersonal abilities, and personality integrity. On the other hand, accountability reflects the moral and administrative obligation of a teacher to account for all actions, decisions, and learning outcomes to students, schools, society, and God Almighty. </div> <div> This paper discusses the main factors that affect teacher professionalism, including educational qualifications, teaching experience, work environment, professional training, and commitment to professional ethics. The analysis shows that professionalism and accountability have a reciprocal relationship: professionalism is the basis for the birth of accountability, while accountability reinforces professional practice in real action. Professional teachers will show high responsibility, transparency in assessment, openness to evaluation, and willingness to continuously improve the quality of learning. <br> Furthermore, this paper outlines how the application of professionalism and accountability in the learning process in schools can be realized through careful learning planning, the use of relevant methods and media, work discipline, academic honesty, and continuous self-reflection. On the other hand, the lack of professionalism and accountability has been proven to have a negative impact on the quality of learning, student motivation, school reputation, and the success of national education goals. <br> Overall, this paper emphasizes that efforts to improve teacher professionalism and accountability should be the main focus for educational institutions, governments, and prospective educators. Strengthening these two aspects not only improves the quality of the learning process, but also strengthens the integrity and credibility of the teacher profession as an agent of shaping the nation's character. </div>
