A Review of Malingering Within the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Population

View through CrossRef
Considering and detecting malingering in the general population has been a topic of investigation for some time within the field of forensic psychiatry. Despite this, there has been comparatively little investigation into malingering within the child and adolescent psychiatric patient population. This summary article provides an overview of current research on malingering within this subgroup. The goal of this article is to provide an introduction into recent literature on malingering in children and adolescents, with a focus on its underlying motivations, various assessment methods, ethical considerations, and a look toward future research. Particular focus will be given to how these factors may differ for this group in comparison to their adult counterparts. [ Psychiatr Ann . 2025;55(5):e121–e125.]
