PHYTOCHEMICAL PROFILE OF UNDERGROUND PART OF CICHORIUM INTUBYS L.

View through CrossRef
The medicinal plant Cichorium intybus L. is well known for its therapeutic properties and potential pharmaceutical applications. This study focuses on the analysis of the biologically active constituents and mineral composition of C.intybus L., emphasizing the plant’s pharmaceutical value. Quantative and qualitative analyses of its main bioactive compounds, including organic acids, flavonoids, polysaccharides, coumarins, tannins and vitamin C, were conducted. In addition, macro-microelement content was determined using spectrophotometric technique. The results show that the plan contains significant amounts of coumarins and tannins, known for their therapeutic potential, along with vital macro-microelements like calcium, magnesium and potassium. Further analysis using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) identified major components in petroleum ether extract. The findings underline Cichorium intybus L.’s potential for use in pharmaceutical formulations due to its diverse bioactive compounds and rich elemental composition.
