Flygare-Carlén, Emilie Smith, 1807-1892, author, mother of Rosa Carlén. F. grew up in Strömstad and got to know in detail the Bohuslänan coastal landscape. She struck through with the novel Rosen on Tistelön: Story from the Archipelago (1842), which is based on an authentic court case. The prolific F. belonged to the first generation of professional writers in Swedish literature. She wrote over her 30s novels and stories, many in a western coastal environment that she draws on reality and convincing. It also hears Pål Inventory: A Archipelago Syngings Essventyr (1844), Enslingen at the Johannis cutter: Kustroman (1846), the tendentious novel A Night at Lake Bullar (1847) and a Merchant House in the archipelago (1860-61). With his epic efficacy, F. often unites people’s life portrayal and intriguing plot. F. lived from 1839 in Stockholm, where long times her home became a literary salon. Some of the guests there, she portrays in Minnen af svensklif 1840-1860 (1878).
Married in 1827-33 to Axel Flygare and 1841-75 to J.G. Carlén.
