Arte y activismo urbano en los ochenta: El proyecto Sin Larios de Agustín Parejo School

Esta comunicación propone un análisis de algunas obras del colectivo Agustín Parejo School, activo durante los años ochenta y principios de los noventa en la provincia de Málaga. Su producción artística nos procura un ejemplo de activismo ciudadano en el Estado Español durante los años inmediatamente posteriores a la Transición. Los Agustín Parejo School convirtieron la calle y la participación colectiva en herramientas imprescindibles de su actividad, mediante acciones, pintadas, intervenciones en monumentos públicos, o la teatralización en el espacio público.En este sentido, aquí se analiza una de sus propuestas más significativas: el traslado transitorio de la escultura del Marqués de Larios desde su pedestal a la acera en Sin Larios (1992). Junto a la parodia de candidatura política en la acción Caucus (1986), y la reivindicación de una vivienda digna en Sin vivienda (1991), constituye un ejemplo pionero de arte urbano en la España democrática –así como de la polémica con los detentadores del poder político que puede acarrear. Ironía, polémica, poesía visual, activismo, participación colectiva, la calle, en fin, como lienzo, son los ingredientes de la actividad artística del colectivo Agustín Parejo School, previa a la reactivación generalizada de este tipo de prácticas artísticas en los noventa.Palabras clave: Arte de los ochenta en España, Agustín Parejo School, arte público, arte urbano, arte contextual.Art and urban activism in the eighties: The project Sin Larios of Agustin Parejo SchoolAbstract This paper analyses selected works by Agustín Parejo School, a group of artists active throughout the eighties and early nineties in the province of Malaga. Their artistic production provides us with an example of citizen activism in Spain after the “Transición”. Agustín Parejo School turned street and collective participation into indispensable tools of its activity, through actions, graffiti, interventions in public monuments, or the dramatization in public space, etc. Here we analyze specially one offer: the transitory movement of the sculpture of the Marquess of Larios from his pedestal to the sidewalk in the work called Sin Larios (1992).Along with the parody of political candidacy in the Caucus action (1986), and the decent housing claim in Sin vivienda (1991), a pioneering example of urban art in the democratic Spain --and of the possible polemic they may cause with political power detainers. Irony, polemic, visual poetry, activism, collective participation, and the street as a canvas, are the ingredients of the artistic activity by the collective Agustín Parejo School, preceding the reactivation of this kind of artistic practices that took place on the nineties.Key words: Spanish Art of the 80s, Agustín Parejo School, public art, urban art, contextual art.
