Ayurvedic management of arthavadusthi–a case study

Ayurveda is a health care system sensitive to women’s special health needs. Women are far more sensitive to the rhythms and cycles of nature. Menstruation occurs every month from the age of 12-50 years. Raja and Artava are synonyms of one another. Artava Dushti occurs due to mithya ahar-vihar in Rajkala (Rajaswala), Ritukala, and Rituvyatitkala. There are many causes for Artava Dushti, like mithya ahar-vihar, heavy work, mental stress, malnutrition, anemia, use of contraceptive pills, IUCD, excess hormones, and travelling, etc. There are eight types of Artava Dushti, one among them is Granthi bhuta Artava, which is Vatakapha Janya and is characterized by the clotted appearance of Artava associated with pain and unctuousness.
