LEFT VENTRICULAR MYXOMA - A CASE REPORT
View through CrossRef
Cardiac myxomas are the most common primary cardiac neoplasms, with very small percentage found in ventricles. They are usually located in
both atrias and very unlikely to be present in the ventricles. Left ventricular myxomas are extremely rare, with limited case reports noted in the
literature accounting for only 1.7% of all cardiac myxomas. Although myxomas are the most common benign cardiac tumor in adults, its incidence
in pediatric group is uncommon. A common method of presentation in such cases are usually embolic events such as cerebrovascular accidents. It
may also cause left ventricular outow tract obstruction in some cases. We present a rare case of a left ventricular myxoma in a 12-year-old
symptomatic child, which on echocardiographic evaluation was found to be arising from left ventricular free wall and was treated surgically and
conrmed pathologically. These kind of case reports will help us in understanding ventricular myxomas more which may benet in future
management and research.
