A deer hunting scene in the Scottish Highlands, portraying a gentleman and his son (possibly Thomas Mills Goodlake and his son Gerald) with attendants. In the foreground stand the 2 sportsmen, one wearing a pale grey check suit and cap and holding his sporting piece at the muzzle; his companion wearing a fawn suit and pointing with a telescope. A gillie beside them with a pony, the stag at their feet and a stag hound at their side, heather and reeds among the rocks. Beyond, 2 deer on the skyline of a distant peak; s.d. 1852. Exh. RA 1852: in 1853 Luker showed "Retriever and spaniels, the property of Thomas Mills Goodlake, Esq.". (145x173cm)
