China RoHS Update

ABSTRACT China RoHS has been enforced since March 1, 2007. This is a regulation governing “Management Methods for the Prevention and Control of Pollution from Production of Electronic Information Products”. It establishes a broad regulatory framework for substance restrictions, pre-market certifications, labeling, and information disclosure requirements. These requirements affect a wide range of products, material, and components defined as Electronic Information Products (EIP) sold and imported into China. This paper will focus on the main requirements of China RoHS (Order No.39), comparison between China RoHS and EU RoHS, China Compulsory Certification (CCC), and its control and monitoring. Also it is an overview on “Requirements for concentration limits for certain hazardous substances in electronic information products” (SJ/T 11363-2006), “Marking for control of pollution caused by electronic information products” (SJ/T 11364-2006), and “Testing methods for hazardous substances in electronic information products” (SJ/T 11365-2006). As a conclusion, a way for China RoHS compliance is suggested and an overview of the future tasks on the Prevention and Control of Pollution from production of EIP is included.
