Relationship between information communication technology skills and service delivery among librarians in Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, Nigeria

This study determined the relationship between ICT skills and service delivery among librarians in Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Descriptive correlational design was adopted in the study. All of the 20 librarians in Niger Delta University constituted the population and sample of the study. The instrument used to collect data was a structured questionnaire entitled “ICT Skills and Service Delivery Questionnaire (ICTSSDQ)”. The data were analysed using Pearson ‘s Product-Moment Correlation (PPMC). The results revealed a negative relationship between basic ICT hardware operational skills and service delivery among librarians, low positive relationship between e-mail management skills and service delivery and a negative relationship between database management skills and service delivery of among librarians in Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State. The study concluded that that there is a negative relationship between each of the ICT skills (ICT hardware operational skills, e- mail management skills, database management skill) and service delivery among librarians in Niger Delta University in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that an enabling environment be created for librarians to perform their various functions with ICT gadgets, amongst others.
