Resumen. La gestión del primer intendente de Guanajuato, Andrés Amat de Tortosa, ha sido poco atendida en la historiografía; prácticamente se ha reducido a la enfermedad que padeció y le obligó a dejar la intendencia. Este artículo tiene como objetivo cambiar la imagen que ha prevalecido sobre él; de manera concreta, se busca evidenciar la trayectoria del intendente antes de su llegada a Guanajuato, sus prioridades al asumir su cargo, así como las problemáticas a las que se enfrentó y que le impidieron concretar varias de las reformas que buscaba implantar. Abstract. The administration of the first intendant of Guanajuato, Andrés Amat de Tortosa, has been all but forgotten in historiography, and all records have virtually been reduced to the illness he suffered from, forcing him to resign. This article aims to change the perception that has prevailed on him; specifically, we seek to show evidence of the path of the mayor before his arrival in Guanajuato, his priorities upon taking office, as well as the issues which he faced and that prevented him from realizing several reforms that he sought to implement.
