View through CrossRef
Abstract : This article examines the life and personality of Jugurtha, King of Numidia, by exploring the factors that shaped his character and contributed to his emergence as one of the most prominent rulers of ancient North Africa during the second century BCE. The study focuses on his birth and upbringing within the Numidian royal court, highlighting the educational, cultural, and social influences that contributed to the formation of his leadership qualities. Particular attention is given to his personal attributes, including intelligence, courage, physical strength, humility, and determination, which distinguished him among his contemporaries. The article also analyzes Jugurtha’s military abilities and leadership skills, emphasizing his early military training, his participation in the Numantine War alongside the Roman commander Scipio Aemilianus, and his mastery of both conventional and guerrilla warfare.
