Chemical Composition of the Essential Oil of Vitex agnus-castus L. Growing in the Conditions of Apsheron

The article presents the results of a chemical analysis of Vitex agnus-castusL., introduced in Apsheron. This is one of the rare and protected plant species in Azerbaijan. The composition of the essential oil of Vitex agnus-castusleaves was studied using gas-liquid chromatography. The essential oil content in the leaves of Vitex agnus-castus was 0.45%. More than 22 components were identified, the main ones being α-pinene (6.1%), β-pinene (13.1%), and 1,8-cineole (28.31%). V. agnus-castus L. contains a range of primary metabolites, including proteins, lipids, minerals, carbohydrates, and derivatives of these compounds. This plant possesses pharmacological properties. The essential oil of the plant has antimicrobial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory effects, as well as high antibacterial activity. The plant also has significant potential for use in landscape design.
