Relationship between farmers profile and their knowledge about polyhouse cultivation technology
View through CrossRef
India is mostly an agrarian country because the large number of its citizens are employed in the agricultural sector. Agriculture is the livelihood for 58.00 per cent of the Indian population. Polyhouse or greenhouse is a building composed of transparent materials, such as polyethylene or shade nets, in which plants are cultivated in climate-controlled environments, both considered identical, but the greenhouse is used more ordinary in India. The knowledge for this study was operationalized as the knowledge level about polyhouse cultivation technology in the Jaipur division of Rajasthan. Jaipur and Alwar districts were selected because they have a largest number of polyhouse farmers. Out of both districts, the first three tehsils having a maximum number of polyhouse farmers was selected purposely. This way, 160 respondents from the Jaipur district and 60 respondents from the Alwar district was selected. Thus, the total sample was comprised of 220 farmers. Study shows that education, annual income, sources of information utilization, extension contacts and economic motivation were significantly correlated with the knowledge of the farmers about Polyhouse Cultivation Technology. On the other hand, variables like age, caste, occupation, land holding and farm mechanization were not significantly correlated with the knowledge of the farmers about Polyhouse Cultivation Technology.
