Teacher education has been under going transformations over the years and assuming new meanings and dimensions due to changes in socio-cultural and political conditions of the society, particularly in the context of growing emphasis of applying and integrating democratic competencies. Teachers have a great mission to ignite the minds of the young. The ignited minds are the most powerful resource on the earth, above the earth and under the earth. Educators must develop democratic competency for congenial and friendly educational environment in which learners can grow autonomous through the very act and process of learning. The competency areas are interpersonal, pedagogical & psychological, subject content & methodological, organizational and intercultural. The purpose of the initiative is to develop a democratic teaching style by teacher educator which is global demand of the current scenario and also professional development of the teacher educator is based only on democratic competency-based education and training programme. Our educationist and the psychologist give stress on the affectionate and the sympathetic behavior of the teacher towards their learners. Democratic competence is connected with using things cordially and mutually in the teacher‟s work. Learning needs freedom to think and freedom to imagine. Both have to be facilitated by the teacher and education system. Creativity in the teacher education system can be promoted by acquiring democratic competency. When the teachers interact with the children they do so in the manner of a scientist. This democratic technique promotes creativity among the learners. This approach makes the learner a willing learner and makes him participate enthusiastically in the learning process. However, need to acquire democratic competency by teacher educator is to facilitate better understanding and learning in those students who are weak in studies. Such a teacher is the real guru. Moreover, with acquiring democratic competency, teacher educator can know better the expectations, aspirations, intellectual alertness and the dreams of the learners and also the teacher educators can groom the learners effectively to become autonomous learners. In the emerging scenario, teacher education has also changed, with the aspirations & expectations of the society & demanding tremendous shift in teacher education style. Moreover, democratic learning style which is part of democratic competency have opened flexible learning environment to teacher as a learner anytime & anywhere to better accommodate teacher busy schedule through new technologies. Simulated teaching, tutorials, script writing, learning by discovery, cooperative learning, peer learning & direction of moving documentary, case study, project based learning etc. are some examples of democratic teaching strategies which make teaching joyful & learning a passion to excel, go beyond it, be human, respect others & be a professional, at all times. The most important part of democratic competency is to inculcate in the students the spirit of “WE CAN DO IT.” This democratic competency are now making possible for teacher to dynamically interact & collaborate with subject content. Because it makes them more than one sense simultaneously and also enhances the efficacy of transaction & productivity. This article is to make us aware as teachers and learner regarding to acquire and use the democratic competency for teaching, enhancing and enriching the quality of education system.
