ADVANCED PHARMACEUTICAL DELIVERY PLATFORMS: TRANSDERMAL, MUCOSAL, PULMONARY, AND OPHTHALMIC DELIVERY FORMS
View through CrossRef
Drug delivery systems are made to efficiently distribute therapeutic chemicals to the body in order to accomplish the intended therapeutic result. Poor bioavailability, gastrointestinal tract drug degradation, and first-pass metabolism are common problems with traditional medication delivery techniques such oral administration. Alternative methods such transdermal, mucosal, pulmonary, and ocular drug delivery systems have been developed to improve drug absorption, efficacy, and patient compliance in order to get around these restrictions. Transdermal drug delivery systems provide regulated and prolonged drug release while lowering the frequency of doses by delivering medications through the skin into the systemic circulation. Because mucosal membranes are highly vascularized and permeable, mucosal drug delivery systems such as nasal, buccal, and sublingual routes allow for quick drug absorption. Particularly for respiratory and systemic illnesses, pulmonary drug delivery devices provide quick start of action and high absorption by delivering medications straight to the lungs. By improving drug retention duration and penetration into ocular tissues, ophthalmic drug delivery devices are specifically made to treat eye ailments. These solutions assist in overcoming issues including restricted drug absorption and quick tear drainage. All things considered, transdermal, mucosal, pulmonary, and ocular drug delivery systems offer efficient, focused, and patient-friendly methods that enhance therapeutic results and lessen adverse effects.
