Authoritarianism and Antisemitism: A Replication of Previously Found Relationships

<p><span>The aim of the present study was to replicate recent research on how different forms of authoritarianism are related to antisemitism (Allington et al., 2023). The present study differs from the original one in several ways: We analyzed samples from the U.S. (instead of the U.K.); we measured authoritarianism and antisemitism separately with large time intervals in between; we captured antisemitism after October 7, 2023; we applied an additional measure of antisemitism; and we statistically controlled for political orientation on the left-right spectrum in supplementary analyses. The analyses were based on six existing datasets containing data on left-wing authoritarianism, right-wing authoritarianism, and social dominance orientation. After October 7, we re-invited the participants to complete measures of antisemitism. Overall <i>N</i> = 2,945 individuals participated in the present study. Like Allington et al. (2023), we found left-wing authoritarian anti-hierarchical aggression to be the key predictor of antisemitism among authoritarianism variables.</span></p>
