Porträt Eleonore Neumann (1819-1841)

Portrait of Eleonore Neumann. The violinist is portrayed here as a half-figure at a very young age. Her quiet view passes to the right of the viewer. She carries her hair in braids, one of which must be hidden behind her back, and a wreath on her head. A pretty dress with a broad collar and loop on the neck rounds off the whole thing. Under her right arm, she has her violin clamped and holds the bow in her hand. In the other hand she holds a notebook with the inscription "CONCERT de Mayseder."Her name appears under the portrait. Eleonore Neumann probably received her early musical training in Warsaw. She was only eleven years old when she already performed concerts in Breslau, Berlin, Prague and Vienna. In 1831 she moved with her parents to Paris and gave concerts there. From 1834 to 1838, performances in Brussels, Boulogne-sur-mer, Angers, Lausanne, Bern, Neuchâtel, Geneva, Milan, Venice and Trieste are documented. She spent the winter of 1837/1838 in Geneva, where she offered lessons in piano and singing for advanced students. The sheet is not signed. The inscription reveals that the musician was only ten years old at the time of the formation of the picture. No other collection seems to possess a specimen of the present sheet.
