Historiantutkija, filosofian tohtori, Suomen historian dosentti Pekka Nevalainen kuoli Joensuussa 3.12.2021. Hän oli syntynyt Nurmeksen Salmenkylässä 7.10.1959. Ylioppilaaksi hän kirjoitti Nurmeksen lukiosta vuonna 1979. Varusmiespalveluksen jälkeen opinnot alkoivat silloisen Joensuun korkeakoulun historian laitoksella syksyllä 1980.
