SERUM ADENOSINE DEAMINASE LEVEL IN TYPE 2 DIABETIC PATIENTS AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH HEMOGLOBIN A1C

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a common metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia. Elevated adenosine deaminase levels have been observed in diabetic individuals, but their relationship with glycemic control remains an area of interest. This study aims to investigate the serum adenosine deaminase levels in accord to the glycemic status and ABI in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study was carried at Department of Medicine, DHQ Hospital Kotri from 06 December 2023 to 06 June 2024 after approval from research ethics committee. The study participants were 140 type 2 diabetic patients and they were categorized as uncontrolled (HbA1c > 7%) and controlled (HbA1c <7%). After informed consent, adenosine deaminase levels were measured in serum samples from both groups. The catered data was entered and analyzed in statistical software of IBM, SPSS version 22.0. Results: The adenosine deaminase was compared according to glycemic status of diabetic patients, there was statistically significant increase in adenosine deaminase levels in patients with hemoglobin A 1c >7.0%. Conclusion: There is increase in adenosine deaminase with increase in hemoglobin A1C. A decrease in ABI is seen with increase in adenosine deaminse levels.
