A Visit With Tessamarie Capitolo

Jill Kaplan interviewed Tessamarie Capitolo, long-time member of STA and ISST, who has recently retired from her psychotherapy practice. Tessamarie Capitolo recounts that her early love of play developed as she was growing up in Trinidad with a large extended family. Her early encounter with sandplay and Dora Kalff changed the course of her professional career. It was while she was in Switzerland that she first saw the Black Madonna of Einsiedeln, an iconic figure and symbol about which she wrote and often taught. Tessamarie Capitolo has been instrumental for years in the STA community promoting diversity and training many sandplay therapists through the counseling agency she and her husband, David Capitolo, founded in Marin County, California.
