POLITICAL INDOCTRINATION OF MINORS IN INDIA - A LEGAL CONUNDRUM

View through CrossRef
There is a thin line between personal opinion and indoctrination. So where does the blame lie for a minor who was ‘politically indoctrinated’ so as to inculcate certain beliefs and ideologies which may drive him towards criminality. Can a minor be truly made criminally responsible for a crime he committed by political indoctrination from his adult environment? Can he be truly made responsible for what he might have committed by acting on beliefs that were inculcated in him through indoctrination by his parents or guardian or schools? Children have been identified as victims of violent extremism and terrorism by the United Nations, in its various reports. However, considering the fluctuation in the number of cases being reported against minors for committing crimes against public tranquility and crimes against the State in India; should the crimes committed by such minors by being politically indoctrinated, be mitigated? Where does the penal liability lie?
