The Messiah Son of Joseph according to Rabbi Zaddok Hacohen
View through CrossRef
This chapter considers the writings of Rabbi Zaddok Hacohen Rabinowitz on the messiah son of Joseph. One of the most fascinating aspects of his work is the importance he attributes to historiosophy. It is within the context of these historiosophical considerations that this chapter situates his thinking on the messiah son of Joseph. For Zaddok, as indeed for his predecessors, everything begins with the sin committed by Adam, which led to the confusion between good and evil. From then on the entire history of mankind is to be considered an undertaking aimed at discerning and discriminating between good and evil. The chapter goes on to introduce a paradox: according to Zaddok, Joseph himself sought to become the messiah son of Joseph.
