Strung necklace with amulets of fruit parts

The necklace is worn by both men and women.‖ The seeds are pierced and strung on the string. The figurines are carved from anajá nuts; this is done by both men and women (de Vos). Nimuendajú, 1952: 41 mentions, for example, a brother and a sister, who were considered at the time to be the best artists in this field. \The Ticuna use tucuma palm nuts for the figure hangers; usually the tucuma piranga but sometimes ordinary tucuma or anajá nuts as here. The first two mentioned have a shiny jet black surface, the latter a bright brown (Nimuendajú, 1952: 41).
