Cet article étudie l'intérêt durable du poète américain John Berryman pour W. B. Yeats. Berryman, on l'oublie trop souvent, s'est tourné très tôt vers Yeats, démontrant ainsi son souci de ne pas cautionner une forme d'exceptionnalisme culturel. Au contraire, Berryman a toujours fait preuve d'un sens aigu de la responsabilité historique. Témoignant de ce que Berryman qualifiait lui-même de «politique de l'éloge », sa relation à Yeats apparaît de la sorte comme un exemple idéologique majeur des interactions entre poésie américaine et poésie irlandaise.
