Sun Wukong (King Monkey), Songoku in Japanese, is the main character in the Chinese epic “Journey to the Sun Apune.” He accompanies the monk Xuanzang on the trip to India, from where he had to bring the Buddhist sutras. Songoku, who is looking for immortality, is represented here alongside the Rabbit from the moon (or Jad Rabbit) who is said to prepare the elixir of life.
