Hazánkban a mirigyes bálványfa a legveszélyesebb fásszárú özönnövény fajok egyike. XIX. századi betelepítése óta sokfelé kivadult, a településekről az utak mentén is folyamatosan terjed és ma már az ország szinte minden területén előfordul, beleértve a természetközeli élőhelyek többségét. Agresszív térnyerése révén jelentős ökológiai és ökonómiai károkat okoz, ezért az ellene való védekezés elkerülhetetlenné vált. Ehhez a fajjal kapcsolatos releváns hazai ismeretanyag összegyűjtése fontos segítséget nyújthat.
