View through CrossRef
Udakadhara Twacha is described as the outermost layer of skin in charaka Samhita. Udakadhara Twacha plays a vital role in retaining and regulating body fluids. Udvartana is an external therapy as well as daily regimen described in ancient Ayurvedic literature. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dry towel Udvartana and internal administration of Godugdha Santanika (i.e., an example described for skin in sushruta Samhita sharirasthana). Skin moisture and determined subjective parameters observed in 30 diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (non-insulin dependent) aged 25–60 years. The study was conducted in three sub-stages: Udvartana by dry towel (for 30 days), a no-intervention phase (of 30 days), and internal administration of Godugdha Santanika (for 30 days). Subjective parameters included Chalaspik Udara Sthana, Alasya, Dourbalya, Swedadhikyata, Daurgandhyata, and frequency of urine, while objective assessment was done using a digital skin moisture meter at five sites namely forehead, forearms, abdomen, upper back, and calves. Comparison was done between the findings of dry towel udvartana procedure & internal use of godugdha santanika. On the basis of statistical analysis, it is found that in objective parameter & subjective parameter, udvartana procedure is more useful as compared to internal use of godugdha santanika.
