Integrasi Zuhud Nabi dalam Konteks Modern

View through CrossRef
This research aims to explore the essence of zuhud, the practices of Prophet Muhammad PBUH as a role model, and its integration into modern life. In the modern era, humans often face spiritual emptiness and psychological pressure due to rapid technological advancement and materialism. The influence of media and advertising shapes a consumptive lifestyle, often portraying luxury as the sole measure of success, thereby diminishing the awareness of inner peace. Many societies identify success only through material wealth, causing the value of simplicity to lose its place and triggering the pursuit of personal interests without social responsibility. Technological progress presents its own challenges in practicing zuhud due to the intensifying flow of materialism. By understanding the integration of the Prophet's zuhud in a modern context, it is expected that humans, particularly Muslims, can wisely navigate modernity and technological developments to avoid materialism. Using a qualitative approach focusing on Sufism literature, the results indicate that zuhud is not merely about abandoning the world, but rather detaching the heart from worldly greed while maintaining productivity. The life of the Prophet proves that zuhud is a conscious choice to live simply despite having access to wealth. In a contemporary context, zuhud functions as a spiritual solution to counter individualism and consumerism, encouraging a life of qona’ah (contentment), social generosity, and constant dhikr. The implementation of zuhud enables individuals to maintain psychological stability and spiritual proximity to Allah SWT amidst global changes. It can be concluded that zuhud serves as an alternative to fill the spiritual void caused by rapid technological development and materialistic ideologies.
