Uniportal, Percutaneous Microdiscectomy with Annulo-nucleoplasty
View through CrossRef
Abstract
Low back pain resulting from degenerative disk disease or contained lumbar disk herniation (CLDH) is challenging and may require surgical intervention to resolve. Percutaneous microdiscectomy with or without annulo-nucleoplasty is a minimally invasive method for reducing CLDH. This chapter presents uniportal, percutaneous microdiscectomy with annulo-nucleoplasty using the Disc-FX® System (Elliquence®, Baldwin, NY). The technique has been shown to reduce postoperative complications, to reduce hospital stay, and to lead to shorter rehabilitation and early return to work, and therefore to reduce the cost of treatment. The chapter reviews the relevant anatomy, pathology, efficacy, and detailed instruction for percutaneous microdiscectomy with annulo-nucleoplasty using the Disc-FX® System.
