View through CrossRef
This study investigated organizational culture as correlate of job performance among academic librarians in polytechnic libraries in South-West, Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to find out the relationship between organizational culture and job performance, determine the influence of gender, and determine the influence of academic qualification on this relationship. A correlational survey design was adopted for the study and questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection with a total of 132 copies of questionnaires were distributed to academic librarians in state and federal polytechnic libraries in South-West, Nigeria, out of which 127 were returned, representing a 96.2% response rate. Data were analyzed using linear regression and t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that there exists a high and positive relationship (R = 0.61; R² = 0.37) between organizational culture and job performance of academic librarians, implying that organizational culture accounts for 37% of the variation in job performance. The first hypothesis was rejected, indicating a significant relationship between organizational culture and job performance. The second hypothesis showed that gender had a significant influence (p = 0.004) on the relationship, while the third hypothesis revealed that academic qualification had no significant influence (p = 0.089). The study concluded that a strong and positive organizational culture enhances the job performance of academic librarians in polytechnic libraries. Based on the findings, the study recommended that polytechnic library management should create a conducive and supportive work culture that promotes effective job performance, establish gender-sensitive policies to accommodate all staff, and encourage librarians to deliver innovative and specialized information services that support teaching, learning, and research within the institution.
