Epilogue

This chapter presents further reflections on the intersection of heritage work and modern power, covering some of the post-2012 developments in Mali's heritage sector as well. It discusses key developments in the heritage field, including the emergence of new political and religious actors; the internal diversification of the state (as reflected also in the types of initiatives different state entities promote); and the forms of privatization promoted by the state in cooperation with international organizations. The chapter ultimately questions the opposition between private and public initiatives, suggesting overlaps and similar omissions, and expands on the significance of cultural heritage and its diversification in contemporary Mali.
