Gender, Politics and War in Disney’s Frozen Film Series

Ever since its release in 2013, Disney’s Frozen has been watched and beloved by both children and adults in the world. The film caused worldwide sensation and has been commercially successful, and hence, Disney decided to create Frozen film series. The purpose of this article is to conduct a comparative analysis of Disney’s Frozen (2013) and Frozen II (2019) from interdisciplinary perspectives by investigating the connotation of feminism and political correctness. From the viewpoint of “gender representation”, how are main female characters in the Frozen film series depicted? What is the difference between the image of princesses in the Frozen film series and that of princesses in former Disney movies? How did Disney attempt to reflect the idea of “political correctness” as well as the perspective of “war and peace” in the Frozen film series? With a view to exploring answers to these research questions, this article conducts a content analysis of Disney’s Frozen film series from the interdisciplinary viewpoints, especially from the perspectives of gender representation, political correctness, as well as war and peace.
