Pan Africanism and Decolonization: An Unfettered Interpretation

This contribution focuses on the interpretation of the concepts of Pan-Africanism and decolonization in an unfettered sense. Based on the use of written sources, the author conceptualizes the two terms and further dwells on existing historical and literary sources that have contributed to the Pan-Africanist agenda and push the frontiers of the discussions on decolonization, especially the decolonization of African literature in particular. It sketches some African literary themes by writers like Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Ama Ata Aidoo, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie among others since the post-colonial era. It concludes among other things that through the literary works of Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Tsitsi Dangarembga, Kwame Nkrumah, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, African literature has emerged as a force for cultural reclamation, social critique, and the articulation of diverse voices. These writers have played a crucial role in shaping a narrative that reflects the diversity, resilience and richness of the continent, rejecting Eurocentric literary perspectives and also generally emphasize the principles and practices of sovereign states in Africa with their own unique institutions and practices. Also, just think about what Africa will look like in the next fifty years with leaders and intellectuals possessing renewed consciousness within a decolonized sphere.
