PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE AT UGANDA NATIONAL ROADS AUTHORITY BY CHRISTOPHER DAVID LWEBUGA

<p><span>The study examined the influence of performance management practices on employee performance in public institutions. The study’s objectives were to examine the influence of performance planning on employee performance in UNRA, the influence of performance monitoring on employee performance in UNRA, and the influence of performance appraisal on employee performance in UNRA. The research used a cross-sectional survey design and quantitative and qualitative approaches. As per 148 officers who were meant to respond to the questionnaires, 148 questionnaires were distributed and 123 were returned, leading to a response rate of 83.1%. The 123 responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The results indicated that performance planning has a significant positive influence on the performance of employees at UNRA, given β=0.686. The study results further revealed that performance monitoring has a significant positive influence on employee performance at UNRA, given β=0.804. In addition, the findings indicated that performance appraisal has a significant positive influence on employee performance at UNRA, given β=0.961. It was concluded that improved performance management practices such as performance planning, performance monitoring, and performance appraisal translate to improved employee performance at UNRA. The researcher, therefore, recommends that institutions strengthen </span>performance planning, performance monitoring, and performance appraisal to improve employee performance in public institutions.<span></span></p>
