View through Europeana Collections
Breast of the Prussian general field marshal Hans David Ludwig Graf Yorck von Wartenburg (1759-1830), head-on with his head turned to the left. Counterpart of the portrait painting of Albrecht von Roon. A copy of the portrait that Ernst Gebauer made in 1835 and whose real first name was apparently already forgotten, as the wrong name on the back shows. The painter Marie Pischon, born Hupfeld (1856-1928) grew up in Hünfeld (Hessen-Kassel) and learned painting in her maternal granduncle Eduard ihlée (1812-1885). Since 1883 she lived in Berlin, married since 1877 to the merchant and manufacturer Hugo Pischon (1841-1894), mother of five children. After her husband died, she worked as an independent portrait painter. Acquired in 1967 from Berlin’s private ownership as a foundation of Allianz worungs AG for the Berlin Museum. Designated li. "Maria Pischon cop. 1909/after Carl Hermann,/Gebauer [illegible] Rauch, “on the frame at the bottom on a brass plaque:” Stifter:/Karchow, Fürst der I and II, Vorwald, Possart,/Werner I and II, Schimmelpfeng, Möller I,/Schulze-Janssen, Möller II/vom Ulanen Regiment Graf Haeseler "; and on second (large) wooden sign, n.e.c. Literature: Cat. Berlin Museum. Märkisches Museum. Painting I, 1. With a critical catalog of the paintings of the Berlin Museum. Bearb. Sabine Beneke and Sybille Gramlich. Berlin 1994, p. 48.
