The first possible documentary attestation of the locality dates from 1393. The censuses, from 1850 onwards, show no major changes regarding ethnicity and confession, the majority of the inhabitants being Romanians of Greek Catholic religion. After the Second World War, however, the denominational structure is changed, with most villagers becoming Orthodox, in 1992 only about a third of villagers being Greek Catholic. After the expropriation of the United Romanian Church with Rome from 1948, the wooden church came into the possession of the Orthodox Church, with the Greek Catholics serving in the building from the early '90s. The National Historical Monuments Commission classified the building as a historical monument (LMI code: SJ-II-m-B-05098).
