This paper analyzes the evolution of retailing industry in India and examines the FDI policy relating to retailing. This paper also describes the benefits of FDI in retailing and discusses the FDI procedures. A comparative study of retailing Industry in India and China gives the picture of retailing in both the countries. It also gives insights for the FDI policy makers regarding retailing in India. The information is collected from the following sources, Books, Newspapers, Trade Journals, and White papers, Industry portals, Government Agencies, Trade associations. Monitoring Industry News and developments, Access to databases. Using Ratio Analysis, Historical Trend Analysis, Judgmental Forecasting and Cause and Effect Analysis, the Indian retailing industry is analyzed.
