The recto side of this folio features Krishna, the eighth avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu who is worshipped as a deity in his own right, celebrating Holi with a group of gopis (milkmaids). Holi, known as the “festival of colors”, is a Hindu holiday that celebrates victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring.
