Kolkata, is known for its iconic yellow taxis. These taxis are a distinctive feature of the city and have been a part of Kolkata's transportation system for decades. The yellow color was chosen to make the taxis easily identifiable on the busy streets of Kolkata.<br>The taxis in Kolkata are typically Ambassador cars, a model that was popular in India for many years. These taxis are regretfully becoming less in number; they are iconic and have a unique position in the history of our city. These taxis are no longer the only or even the preferred form of public transportation due to the growing popularity of Ola and Uber. They are therefore starting to resemble an endangered species.<br>The drivers of this iconic taxis are left behind. They have been forgotten by the Government. They will be unemployed and might switch to another profession. <br>One cannot picture our city’s road scape without these yellow taxis.
