Comparative Studies of Pesticides Residue and Heavy Trace Elements in Sesame, Millet, Rice and Guinea Corn Grown around Gashua in Yobe State and Hadejia in Jigawa State, Nigeria

Pesticides are chemical stubtaces formulated to kill or repel a pest or halt its production. Nevertheless, the use of pesticides during crop production often leads to the presence of pesticides residue in harvested crops. This calls for concern to consumer health due to pesticides are known to have potential harmful effects on both animal and human beings and also the grains are expected to contain some amount of heavy trace elements. In this study, persistence trace amount of residues was detected in Sesame samples grown around Gashua and Hadejia towns. The concentration of this residues are; Dichlorvos SG and SH (0.548mg/kg and 0.0389mg/kg), Lindale SG and SH (0.011mg/kg and 0.020), and Paraquat dichloride SG and SH (0.442m/kg and 0.548) respectively which are above the WHO/FAO limit. Heavy trace elements were also detected with Arsenic and Chromiun exceeding the WHO/FAO limit in all samples analyzed from but towns. As result, farmers are advice not solely depend on heavy use of chemicals and pesticides which may be the source of these elements.Key words: SG (Sesame from Gashua), SH (Sesame from Hadejia), MG (Millet from Gashua), MH (Millet from Hadejia), RG (Rice from Gashua), RH (Rice from Hadejia) GG (Guinea corn from Gashua and GH (Guinea corn from Hadejia).
