Novel Combination of Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotubes and Gold Nano-Composite for Photothermal Therapy in Human Breast Cancer Model

View through CrossRef
Despite current medical advancements, the resistance of malignant tumors to conventional medical therapies highlights the need for innovative therapeutic techniques. Numerous studies have focused their emphasis on the promising application of nanomaterial’s in recent years. Nanoparticles (NPs) are used to treat cancer. Plasmonic photo thermal therapy (PPTT) is a cancer-ablation technique in which photon energy is rapidly converted into heat by some radiative and non-radiative events. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are plasmonic NPs, have excellent thermal conductivity, and their near-infrared (NIR) absorbance has a lot of interesting qualities. Additionally, CNTs can penetrate cells, in this study (AuNPs) has been used to decorate multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) which could boost its efficacy in cancer treatment according to PPTT. TEM, FE-SEM, AFM,, and FT-IR techniques were used to diagnose MWCNTs made from walnut shell, AuNPs using green chemistry, while MWCNT-COOAu, MWCNT-COO, and MWCNT-Au have been diagnosed by Ramman, EDX, and FE-SEM techniques. The effect of MWCNT-COO, MWCNT-COOAu, and MWCNT-Au at various concentrations (3.12, 6.25, 12.5, and 25) µg/mL and various irradiation time intervals (30, 60, 90, and 120) sec by using near-infrared laser under (λ=1064 nm, P = 3 W) on the breast cancer cell line (MCF7) was investigated. The highest temperatures for MWCNT-COO, MWCNT-COOAu, and MWCNT-Au were determined to be (44.1, 46, and 46.9) oC which produced (61.66, 72, and 85.3) %, cytotoxicity respectively in MCF7 cell line at a concentration of 25 µg/mL and an irradiation period of 120 sec.
